Our Services

General Services

  • Small Animal Medicine

Our approach includes preventive and treatment based medicine. Many diseases and conditions of dogs and cats can be prevented by vaccinations, good nutrition, heartworm preventatives, flea and tick medications, and dental care. We recommend yearly wellness profiles/bloodwork as part of your pet’s annual examination. These results can serve as early evidence of various medical conditions and as a baseline to compare future results to.
We are also dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of your pet’s illnesses and injuries.  If needed, there are specialty referral hospitals that we can refer you to in Hickory, Huntersville, and Charlotte, and the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine in Raleigh.

  • Laboratory Diagnostics

Our in house lab includes Idexx Vet Test, Vet Lyte, and Lasercyte. We can perform chemistry analysis, electrolytes, and complete blood counts. In house we can also do heartworm checks, fecal analysis, feline leukemia/feline aids testing, parvo testing, pregnancy testing, ringworm cultures,  and urinalyses. We also use Antech Diagnostic Lab for our outside labwork.Vetsuite_Img_100072

  • Laser Therapy

The Animal Hospital of Cornelius has recently added Laser Therapy to our compliment of services.  This is a rehabilitative procedure utilizing our Companion Litecure Class IV Laser.  The therapy is performed using a beam of laser light to deeply penetrate tissue, inducing a response called "photo-bio-modulation" which leads to reduced pain, reduced inflamation, and decreased recovery time. The laser light is delivered through a non-invasive hand piece, and most treatments take only a matter of minutes. We utilize the laser therapy for post surgical pain management, and for acute or chonic conditions.  Not all pets are candidates for this tyoe of treatment, so ask your veterinarian and get informed to the capabilities of laser therapy.

  • Ear Video Imaging

Our Med Rx equipment allows us to examine and treat your pet’s ears more thoroughly. The video otoscope magnifies the area and allows visualization on a TV monitor. We can also use flush and suction to remove ear debris and examine the ear drum.Vetsuite_Img_159254

  • Immunization and Wellness Care

Vaccination is also an integral part of maintaining your pet’s well being. In dogs, we vaccinate for distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza, corona virus, leptospirosis, and rabies. In cats, we vaccinate for rhinotracheitis, calici virus, chlamydia psittaci, panleukopenia, leukemia, and rabies. We recommend the purevax rabies one year vaccine for cats in an attempt to decrease the risk of vaccine induced fibrosarcoma, a form of cancer in cats. Our Merial leukemia vaccine is needle-less .

We customize the vaccine recommendation for your individual pet’s needs and risks.
We strive to prevent illness whenever possible. The time and effort invested in Wellness programs has rewards for both pets and owners. Our Wellness programs are designed specifically for your pet and include: Comprehensive physical exam; internal parasite testing; heartworm and flea control; vaccination program; spay and neuter package; and specialized blood tests for all life stages.

  • Microchipping

A microchip is injected under your pet’s skin between the shoulders.  Your pet’s microchip number is entered into our computer system and you can register your pet with the national Home Again registry.  In the event that your pet is lost and found, a wand/scanner at a veterinary clinic or animal shelter can read your pet’s number. Many pets have been reunited with their owners by this permanent identification system.

  • Pain Management

Pets experience pain too. Some signs of pain include decreased activity, reluctance to jump or climb stairs, decreased appetite, chewing or biting an area and decreased appetite.  Many medical conditions, surgeries, and injuries can cause pain in animals. We give all our surgery patients pain medication pre and post op and recommend oral pain medications that owners can administer at home. There are a wide variety of pain medications that we can prescribe, administer, and dispense for your pet from non steroidal anti- inflammatories to opioids.

  • Bathing and Clipping

We can bathe your pet with a mild non-stripping, oatmeal shampoo or use various medicated shampoos if needed. We don’t do pattern grooming but can clip dog’s hair one length. Many clients want the hair left longer on the face and tail and we can accommodate your wishes. Baths and clips include nail trim, ear cleaning, and anal gland expression.

  • Boarding

Our boarding services provide your pet with quality care in a comfortable atmosphere. With highly trained staff we offer a wide variety of services to better care for your pet's medical, dietary, physical and emotional needs. All dogs are taken outside three times a day in our double fenced yard.

We have recently installed the Ultimate K9 Grass turf!  The synthetic turf looks and feels natural and provides the benefit of anti-microbial protection, is antibacterial, durable and safe for our canine friends. After researching the alternatives and solutions to our play area surface, we decided on the artificial turf to solve our mud and clean-up issues and looked to the best product available on the market specifically engineered for high canine traffic. Other artificial turfs are composed of Nylon, which will absorb moisture, meaning it is absorbing the pet’s urine, Ultimate K9 grass uses Polyethylene which resolves this problem. It does not absorb moisture.  Which bring us to a very important concern in the industry, Parvovirus.  With the Polyethylene product you can remove and kill the virus with a treatment process that will not harm the turf product or the pet, verses the Nylon, treatment is very limited due to the fact that Nylon absorbs and will hold the agents that kill the virus. The treatment then becomes harmful to our K9 friends and damaging to the Nylon components.

With the trend “Go Green”; incorporating synthetic / artificial grass to our environment here, we are saving water, while protecting and saving our environment from harsh chemicals to maintain our natural green grass surfaces.  Our new play area need only be hosed down and routinely leaf blown to keep organic matter from building up on top of the surface.  Our visitors have loved the look and their pets are enjoying their stays here even more now.

Please see one of our staff members for more details.
